Maud Tuxedo Trousers - Tester Round-Up

MAUD Tester Round-Up

Sometimes its the simplest patterns…. Maud has been in work for a little while but had to take a back seat while we got our first few patterns released. When we designed our initial collection, we knew we needed to include a great pair of trousers. We wanted an allrounder that rivalled our mom-jeans when getting ready on a rushed morning. Maud is our easy day to night trouser, with a high-rise and proper pockets, with loads of room. As Maud is a pull on trouser without any fastenings or fly, it’s a relatively simple sew, perfect for beginners or a quick project for intermediate sewers. This also makes Maud more straight forward when adjusting the fit.

We tested Maud during lock-down, so our wonderful sewist had the additional challenge of getting suitable cloth and some waist elastic in quite a quick turn around - and they didn’t let us down.

After testing Maud, we reduced the rise lengths and shaved off a little from the waistband depth. So you can expect Maud to sit a little lower on your waist than you can see in our testers photos. The majority of our testers either reduced their rise or said they would reduce the rise for their next make, so we went ahead and made this change for them (and you!). We also added some guidance, within Mauds instruction booklet, on how to lengthen or shorten your rises.

We would like to say a massive thanks to our amazingly generous testers, who have undoubtedly helped make Maud a better pattern for all of us. Here’s what some of our testers had to say and pics of their gorgeous makes

Lia ‘I like the tapering of the legs and love the pockets, they’re the perfect, roomy size! I also liked the instructions for inserting and sewing the elastic, it was great to have those detailed steps.’

For the test Lia used a French blue Tencel from her stash that she had been holding on to for a while - we think it’s a great choice for Maud

Charlotte ‘There wasn’t anything I haven’t done before but it was great practice for fitting and adjusting trousers as I mostly make dresses and shirts. I made them in a very sensible work-friendly navy linen from Nani Iro and I already have plans for a Maud dungarees hack which I’m very excited about.’

Charlotte completed her Maud trial in 2 nights, 1 evening to print the pattern and cut, and the 2nd evening to sew and finish.

Jeanie ‘Love the big pockets and beautiful lines. Next time, I would size down.’

Cleverly Jeanie toiled Maud in the city-short length as pyjamas, then after she had tried the pattern used this lush cloth for a more formal full-length trouser, which looks perfect with this abstract print top.

Morag ‘I find them very comfy, good length and pockets are great. Love how you use lots of notching as I would love to sew without lots of pinning and just using notches.

Morag used a ponte for her Maud Test, and we love the more relaxed look

We though we would share some pics of our own tests too… I used a slightly textured dark green crepe for this (wearable) toile. Next up, I’m planning a pair of Mauds in a vegan leather I picked up in Berwick Street during our last trip to London.

At the last stage of testing Susan decided to break the dark trend set by the rest of the testers, her mustard Mauds are a very welcome injection of colour! And perfect with her bretton
